"Wrapping Paper" and Its History
The answer has actually been around for over 120 years. Because the inventor of toilet paper, the New York businessman Seth Wheller, clearly showed how the roll should hang when it was patented. Wheller also made sure that we can easily tear off handy, square pieces from the rest of the roll with the help of the finely perforated dividing line. At that time, however, he called his idea "wrapping paper" – but we do not want to explain what exactly he was thinking at this point.
The Germans and their toilet paper
In any case, Germans are enthusiastic buyers of toilet paper: According to Stiftung Warentest, they spend more than a billion euros a year on the right roll. The paper should be soft and absorbent, but at the same time not too thick or even tear. Warentest checked whether these requirements could actually be met using 27 different types of toilet paper. For this purpose, 400 people went to the quiet place with the rolls and tested the paper under "real conditions". After that, the paper still had to prove itself in the laboratory. The result: our toilet paper is by and large quite trustworthy. Most of the varieties got a good rating, three products even got a very good rating and only five got the grade satisfactory.
