Interviewed in the context of the documentary entitled Jacques Martin: behind your applause, broadcast Wednesday May 4, 2022 from 9 p.m. on Paris Première, the son of the host, David Martin, revealed a crazy anecdote about his father.
True legend of the small screen, Jacques Martin was an essential animator in the French audiovisual landscape in the 70s, 80s and 90s. During his career, the presenter embodied several cult shows, such as The Little Reporter, but also The School of Fans. Jacques Martin also participated in the emergence of several future television stars, such as Laurent Gerra, Virginie Lemoine, Laurent Ruquier, or even Julien Courbet. Withdrawn from the air in 1998, following a stroke which left him partially paralyzed, Jacques Martin died on September 14, 2007 of generalized cancer, at the age of 74.
In order to salute his memory and his career, the Paris Première channel will broadcast an original documentarybaptized Jacques Martin: behind your applause, Wednesday May 4, 2022 from 9 p.m. Among the various personalities who testified in front of the camera in this film, we can notably mention his eldest son David Martin. Having embraced a career as a cook, the latter had had the opportunity to appear on screen in some father’s shows. During his testimony, he notably revealed a totally crazy anecdote about the late host, which occurred a few days before Christmas. “He decides to make a capon in half-mourning. Slices of truffle are slipped between the flesh and the skin of the poultry. Half mourning, because it’s black and white“, indicated the chef, before continuing.
The police to Jacques Martin: “It seems that you bury strange things in your garden”
“We are in the middle of winter, so the day falls at 6 p.m., and then he says to me: ‘I think we’re going to bury the well-wrapped turkey in the garden for 48 hours, there the soil will finish completing the work that the truffle started'”, added David Martin, before revealing that this very original culinary initiative earned them a little visit from the authorities. “You should know that the garden had a rather cruel vis-à-vis on some buildings and there are people who must have seen us digging with a flashlight, bringing in a bundle wrapped in burlap, and slipping it into a hole. Not even an hour later, half an hour later, there was a knock on the door. It was the police who had been warned“, confessed the son of Jacques Martin. “It seems that you bury weird things in your garden“, even threw the police at them.Oalmost ended up in jail“, concluded with humor David Martin.
