VIDEO – Judith Godrèche unvarnished: “People are fed up with hearing me”

A fight that she decided to fight at all costs. At the end of January, on her Instagram account, Judith Godrèche denounced the influence she allegedly suffered from director Benoît Jacquot in the 1980s. After breaking the silence, Dany Boon’s ex-partner recently decided to file a complaint against the famous director for “violent rape of a minor under 15 years old”. A few weeks later, the 51-year-old actress accused Jacques Doillon of having assaulted her when she was only 15 years old. Since then, she has filed a complaint against the two directors, who benefit from the presumption of innocence. Having become a spearhead of the #MeToo movement in French cinema, Judith Godrèche decided to address the subject of violence against women in her short film Me too, projected at the opening of the section In some perspective at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday May 15.

For Judith Godrèche, this project represents much more than a simple film. It is an attempt to give a collective voice to victims of sexual violence and to make “move things forward”, as she confided during her appearance on the show C to you broadcast on France 5 this Thursday, May 16. If she is committed to moving the lines, Tess’s mother has the feeling that her activism tires some people a little. “I’m sure there are a lot of people who are fed up with hearing me”, she confided to Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine. And to continue: “Even me, sometimes. Obviously, when you invade everyone’s visual space like that, I can understand it.” However, Judith Godrèche has nothing to do and has not said her last word. “When things are done and we have changes that are undeniable, we will be able to say that things are moving forward. I think they are progressing little by little and things are going their way. You have to be positive and optimistic”, she concluded. A new speech full of hope which was unanimous on the set.

Judith Godrèche and her children: their symbolic gesture in Cannes

An image which marked the second rise of the steps of the Cannes Film Festival. This Wednesday, May 15, Judith Godrèche walked the red carpet in the company of her daughter Tess Barthélémy and her son Noé Boon. Once at the top of the legendary steps of the Palace, the actress and the sixteen other artists placed both hands over their mouths. This strong gesture is the same as that made by demonstrators and victims of sexist and sexual violence in his new production Me Too.

For Judith Godrèche, this short film is a continuation of her fight. “I received 5,000 testimonies from women and men who told me about their past attacks. My way of reacting, when something or someone moves me, is to create. Basically, I had a responsibility towards these testimonies”, she explained in the columns of Le Parisien, this Wednesday, May 15. Stories that shocked the audience present during the screening.
