Video – Our first impressions of the Oppo Find N

Announced in China late last year, the Find N is Oppo’s first folding smartphone. A model which, of course, will not be marketed in France, but which is of sufficient interest for us to stop there in video.

The year 2022 should be the year of folding smartphones. If the market is currently dominated by Samsung, whose Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are emblems of this product category, other brands are in ambush. In China in particular, the announcements have followed one another since the last days of 2021: Huawei presented its P50 Pocket, Oppo, its Find N, and Honor, its Magic V. The Oppo model was unveiled during Inno Day, its annual event dedicated to its latest innovations, and will be marketed in China shortly – it already has a million pre-orders there, we are told at the manufacturer.

This smartphone has something to challenge. It has an exterior screen of 5.49 inches (988 x 1,972 pixels), which can be described as compact. And when unfolded, it sports a 7.1-inch LTPO Oled panel, with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, and a definition of 1792 x 1920 pixels. Under its hood nestle a Snapdragon 888 SoC, 8 or 12 GB of RAM, 256 or 512 GB of storage, as well as a 4,500 mAh battery compatible with charging at 33 W. Not to mention a triple photo module (50, 13 and 16 megapixels for wide-angle, telephoto and ultra-wide-angle).

But this high-end technical sheet is only there to serve a device that is interesting in terms of its format. This attractive smartphone is really compact, usable with one hand when it is folded, and perfectly conceals the fold in the middle of its screen: once closed, the Find N does not reveal any space between the two parts of its panel. And the fold, practically invisible to the eye when the mobile is open, is barely noticeable under the fingers. In short, enough to make us regret that Oppo does not plan to market this promising model in France.
