In the middle of the news broadcast, the lights in the studio suddenly went out – see how Peter Kloeppel reacted to the breakdown and continued the broadcast with improvised lighting.

Nobody had expected that: from one second to the next, the RTL news studio was without electricity – and that in the middle of a live broadcast. The cameras continued to run, but the studio was now without any light. But presenter Peter Kloeppel kept his nerve and managed, together with his colleague Andreas von Thien, to continue the show despite the breakdown.

“And if you can no longer see me, but possibly hear me, I can only tell you: the light has gone out here …”

Co-moderator Andreas von Thien was also on the air when the mishap happened. In retrospect, he is happy that Kloeppel was able to save the situation spontaneously. “That was a situation that of course has never happened to me in almost 30 years of moderation and journalism,” said the moderator. In the video you can see the moment again when the lights suddenly went out – and the news anchors make the best of the situation.
