This week, France will never have been so hot for the end of the year. It is expected a temperature of 16.5 ° C over the next two days, five degrees higher than normal. Temperatures are even expected to exceed 20 ° C in the southwest. The first records of softness were thus broken during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, as indicated in this tweet from LCI weather specialist Guillaume Woznika:

Conversely, on the other side of the Atlantic, temperatures have dropped to -50 ° C in Canada. And it is now the entire American West that is affected by this cold wave. In California, for example, nearly five meters of snow fell in December, the highest for that state.
But that could also be good news, according to Andrew Schwartz, director of Berkley’s Central Sierra Snow Laboratery. “Last year our snowfall was among the lowest on record. It led to a severe drought in California.”, he recalls.
