Released in 1989, the song Heleneperformed by Roch Voisine, has been a real hit. She also made her performer an international star. Guest on the show C à vous (France 5), this November 29, the Quebec artist made some astonishing revelations on the origins of this title. “She’s someone I’ve lost track of, she wasn’t my girlfriend at the time”, he explained on the set. Before continuing: “In fact, it’s a Valentine’s Day gift from her boyfriend (to the woman named Hélène in question, an extract of whose audio testimony was broadcast on the set, editor’s note)”.
He then explained: “He asks me, like this: ‘Okay, I’d like to surprise Hélène. We could write him a song. Like that, we’re going to sing to him on Valentine’s Day at my house…I showed up to the party, on Valentine’s Day. I didn’t stay all evening, but we sang the song to him. We did it to him live.” The singer further revealed that this event dated from the year 1982, and that he had the surprise of hearing the title on the radio seven years later.
A friendly gesture
Roch Voisine had already mentioned the genesis of the song Helene on the set of Télématin in 2022. He also mentioned the fact that it was preferable to ignore the origin of legendary songs, in order to continue to cherish them. “You shouldn’t ask too many questions. on these legendary songs, because otherwise we are disappointed to learn the genesis. It was done quite simply, to please someone else. It’s not even my story.”he then declared, reported Closer. He further added that he nevertheless always felt pleasure in singing it. “It always makes me happy to perform the song in concert. I don’t do it all the time“.
