Did you know that Angelina Jolie has a title of nobility? And she's not alone: These eight celebrities were raised to the nobility by the Queen for their services.
Numerous stars have a title of nobility – but without being of blue-blooded origin. How is that possible – are they adopted by a noble family at the height of their success? Of course not – the title of nobility is created in a completely different way.
For queen and fatherland
Twice a year, the Queen honors people for their special achievements with an Order of Merit. These awards are given on New Year's Eve and their official birthday party in June (their actual birthday is April 21). There are five levels of honor: Knight Grand Cross or Dame Grand Cross (GBE), Knight Commander (KBE) or Dame Commander (DBE), Commander (CBE), Officer (OBE), Member (MBE).
