Coronavirus
More and more late effects in children and adolescents
For a long time, children were considered to be less at risk in the pandemic – but now there are more and more cases in which children also suffer long-term damage from their infection with the coronavirus.
No taste sensation, breathing problems and rapid exhaustion: the long-term consequences of a coronavirus disease are frightening and have now become part of their lives for many people. It has now been shown that children and teenagers are also suffering from long covid symptoms more and more frequently – and the trend is rising.
Long Covid: 10 to 15 percent of children struggle with long-term effects
Doctors are now warning against underestimating the risk for children, too. Unfortunately, in many cases it is not the case that the course of the disease is “just the flu” and it is a dangerous trivialization of the disease. “Even in children there can be a multi-organ disease,” said SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach. See in the video why we should now pay particular attention to compliance with hygiene and distance regulations for children and adolescents.
