VIDEO – This chestnut tree has been designated the most beautiful tree in France

He sits proudly. This chestnut tree was planted during the reign of Louis XIV, 330 years ago. What makes it unique is not the number of its wrinkles, but their shape and the structure of its majesty. The tree has adapted to multiple cuts by spreading. Today, its wingspan is 18 meters, which is exceptional. And it continues to expand, solitary, surrounded by 630 houses.

However, in the 18th century, 350 chestnut trees were planted in this district of La Celle-Saint-Cloud (Yvelines), which is logically called La Châtaigneraie. So for some inhabitants, this tree is a symbol. For others, they are childhood memories. Moreover, this tree is also a place of life.

With this victory, this chestnut tree also becomes a standard. “When newcomers come here, they are sometimes inclined to cut the trees. Now, we will have one more argument to tell them to keep the afforestation”, explains Jean-Pierre Lieubray, president of association in the commune. This competition raises awareness that trees are part of France’s living heritage.
