US lawmakers reprimand Democrat after “genocide” comment

The US Democrat Rashida Tlaib receives another reprimand. Among other things, she accused US President Biden of supporting a “genocide” against the Palestinians. Tlaib now senses that “human rights advocates” are being silenced.

The US House of Representatives has reprimanded Democratic Representative Rashida Tlaib with a bipartisan majority for her statements about the war between Israel and the radical Islamic Hamas. 234 members of the Chamber of Congress – including several Democrats – voted to censure the only parliamentarian with Palestinian roots in Washington.

The reprimand accuses Tlaib of “spreading false narratives about the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 and calling for the destruction of the State of Israel.” The text mentions, among other things, Tlaib’s statement that US President Joe Biden supports a “genocide” against the Palestinians. The MP said this in a video that she shared on online networks.

In the same video, a crowd can be seen demanding a “free” Palestine “from the river to the sea”, i.e. from the Jordan to the Mediterranean coast. The rebuke against Tlaib states that this slogan is “widely understood as a call for genocide with the aim of destroying Israel.” Tlaib, however, described the call on the online network X as a “call for freedom, human rights and peaceful coexistence”.

At President Biden also constantly questions the number of Palestinian victims. These are published by an authority in the Gaza Strip that is subordinate to the terrorist organization Hamas.

Tlaib defends himself

After the reprimand was passed, Tlaib tearfully defended himself in a speech. It is important to “distinguish between the population and governments,” she emphasized. The idea that criticism of Israel’s government is anti-Semitic has already been used in the United States to “silence human rights advocates,” Tlaib said.

A reprimand (censure) does not entail expulsion from the House of Representatives, but according to the rules of procedure of the Chamber of Congress it is more serious than a reprimand (reprimand). The reprimand now issued against Tlaib is the second disciplinary action in two weeks because of her statements about Israel.

Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, who is from Somalia, were elected to the US House of Representatives in the 2018 congressional elections as two of the first Muslim women in history. There they formed a group known as “The Squad” along with young left-wing representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ayanna Pressley.

Hundreds of Israeli civilians murdered

The war in the Gaza Strip has now been going on for a month. On October 7, hundreds of fighters from the radical Islamic Hamas invaded Israel from the Gaza Strip and committed atrocities against civilians in attacks on several towns and a music festival. According to Israeli reports, around 1,400 people were killed in the worst attack in the country’s history.

In response to the Hamas attack, Israel declared war on the Palestinian organization and attacked militants’ targets in the Gaza Strip. According to information from the Hamas-run health authority in the Gaza Strip, which cannot be independently verified, more than 10,300 people have been killed there since the start of the war, around two thirds of them women and children.
