Vikings: a sequel in preparation? The creator already has ideas

Will the Vikings series return? As the spin-off Vikings: Valhalla makes its way on Netflix, Michael Hirst, the creator of the original series, teases a possible sequel for Vikings.

Ended in 2020 after six seasons, the series vikings quickly became one of the most popular series, especially in France, thanks to the epic stories of legendary Nordic figures such as Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), Rollo (Clive Standen), Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) or even Ivar (Alex Hogh Andersen).

Its success unsurprisingly spawned a spin-off, Vikings: Valhalla, the first season of which is available on Netflix and which already has two more seasons in production. Even if this series derived from Jeb Stuart (Crystal Trap, The Fugitive), which focuses on descendants a hundred years later, seemed to turn the page on the parent series, the latter may not have breathed its last.

A return of the Vikings?

Indeed, the original Vikings series may well be making a comeback. In any case, this was teased by its creator Michael Hirst, who confided in First on the question at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival:

“I miss Ragnar and his sons. They’re like friends. I’ve lived with them for so long… Every morning when I walk into my office, it’s like I’m going to find out what’s going on. they were doing… So it’s possible that we’ll meet again soon… I say it like that… But it’s possible! I’m currently considering a project with some of the characters (from Vikings ) who would be back…”

A way to please the fans, always very enthusiastic about Vikings, with a enthusiasm that greatly surprised the creator:

“It’s pretty great that people are still so passionate about Vikings. When I came to Lille, for the Series Mania festival last March, I was followed in the streets by a crowd of people! It’s the first I didn’t understand why: ‘I’m only the author of the series you know…’ But they answered me: ‘No, no, you’re Mr Vikings!’ It’s a thing still alive after all…”

If nothing has been officially announced and ordered for the moment, these statements by Michael Hirst make people dream about a potential sequel to Vikings with the surviving characters. In the meantime, you can (re)watch the series in its entirety on Netflix, with seasons 1 to 6A available and season 6B arriving on the platform on July 1.
