PARIS (Reuters) – François Villeroy de Galhau, a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB), said on Sunday that he “personally” hoped that the institution would decide to raise its key rate by 50 basis points when its meeting of December 15, to bring it to 2%.

The Governor of the Banque de France added during an interview on LCI that the rise in rates would continue thereafter, but at a pace and for a duration which remain to be determined according to the economic situation.

He said France and the European Union should avoid a “hard landing” for their economy, saying a recession next year is unlikely.
