The Chinese firm Viltrox has just presented a new wide-angle fixed focal length for Fujifilm hybrids with APS-C sensor, the 13mm F / 1.4 AF.

A new very wide-angle for the X mount

Long announced on the Viltrox calendar, the 13mm F / 1.4 AF will soon be arriving in our shops. The Chinese manufacturer is going to launch this very wide-angle fixed focal length (19.5 mm equivalent in 24×36) on Fujifilm hybrids in X mount and therefore with APS-C sensor. It is a luminous optic, with an optical formula based on 14 elements divided into 11 groups. The diaphragm has nine blades, the minimum focusing distance being 22 cm.

The lens is well equipped with an autofocus system and an iris ring, which won’t confuse Fuji enthusiasts, but it is not tropicalized, however. Finally, note that this 13mm weighs 420g and is just 9cm long and 7.4cm in diameter.

Two competitors at Fujifilm

On Fujifilm’s optical fleet, we can find two rivals, more or less direct: the Fujinon XF 16mm F / 1.4 R WR (sold at 900 €) or the Fujinon XF 18mm F / 1.4 R LM WR, whose price is close to 1000 €.

Pricing and availability

The Viltrox 13mm F / 1.4 AF, marketed from February 2022, will be sold at a much more affordable price since it will be displayed at 423 €. We do not yet know whether Viltrox will market versions for Nikon Z, Canon EF-M or Sony E.
