Vincent Macaigne (Night Doctor): Victim of two strokes, his eye affected, a poignant story

At 43, Vincent Macaigne is now leading a fine career, whom the general public discovered in particular at the cinema in The sense of celebration. Last year, we could see it in the simplest device in The origin of the world but also in night doctor, which earned him a nomination as best actor at the next Cesar ceremony. But life has played a funny trick on him in the past…

It’s on the set of the show As an aside, Thursday, February 17, 2022, that Vincent Macaigne was able to evoke a twist of fate which could have been fatal to him. Indeed, in his thirties, he suffered two strokes! “You had health problems when you were young, at the age of 30. You’ve had two strokes. Does it change the outlook on life, projects? I believe you also have the left eye which was damaged“, asked the presenter Nathalie Lévy.

The actor, unaccustomed to talking about himself, was a little uncomfortable but still responded. “The eye is fine. I went blind in one eye for a while. But then it came back. Obviously that changes and, at the same time, not that much. I had a pretty brilliant doctor (…) I took a little time to get over it, so that there weren’t too many after-effects. I was a bit of a hypochondriac. I was always afraid. As soon as I had a little numb arm, I called the emergency room, I had a direct number“, he recounted.

Vincent Macaigne took some time to put this glitch in life behind him. And it was a doctor who managed to convince him to “go back to life“. He adds : “He said to me, ‘Look, forget what happened to you, it’s an accident and you’re just as likely to have a car accident as you have a stroke.’ He sent me back into life telling me that it was nothing to stop caring about it.” A well-advised advice since it allowed the actor of the series The flame to take control of his life and career. We wish him to win the timpani on February 25, during the 47th Cesar ceremony.
