Vinci Airports passenger traffic more than tripled in the first quarter

PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The construction and concessions group Vinci announced Thursday that passenger traffic at its airports had more than tripled in the first quarter, compared to the same period last year, thanks in particular to the easing of pandemic-related restrictions in several countries.

The group, which welcomed more than 30 million passengers over the period, however indicated that its traffic for the first three months of the year remained down 46.1% compared to the same quarter of 2019, i.e. before the pandemic.

“The general trend of convergence towards pre-crisis levels is confirmed, but the stage of recovery continues to vary greatly depending on the region,” Vinci said in a statement. Over the period, Asian airports in particular remained penalized by the closure of borders or the restrictions maintained in this region, underlined the operator.

Vinci was more optimistic for the rest of the year, pointing out that the lifting of restrictions in several countries had “boosted spring and summer flight bookings”.

“The capacities announced by the companies point to a summer season close to and even sometimes higher – as in Porto, Toulon and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic – at 2019 levels. These trends confirm the recovery dynamic for the rest of the year,” the band said.
