Vinci: motorway and airport traffic accelerates in April but remains lower than 2019

PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–Construction and concessions group Vinci announced on Monday that traffic for its Vinci Autoroutes division jumped 56% in April compared to the corresponding period of 2021, while traffic for Vinci Airports had at the same time been multiplied by 4.3.

Compared to April 2019, i.e. before the health crisis, Vinci Autoroutes traffic remains down 2.8%. “The slight contraction in light vehicle traffic in April 2022 compared to April 2019 is attributable both to the increase in fuel prices and to an unfavorable calendar effect (shift in the spring holidays between these two years)”, indicated Vinci in a press release.

“For its part, heavy goods vehicle traffic remained strong,” added the group.

The recovery in passenger traffic accelerated in April “in most countries of the Vinci Airports network”. “The improvement is particularly notable in Europe (Portugal, United Kingdom, France and Serbia) and in the Americas, driven by the good dynamics of tourist traffic”, underlined the group. Traffic at Vinci Airports, however, remained 31% below its April 2019 level.
