Vinci summoned by the courts over working conditions in Qatar


PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The construction and concessions group Vinci indicated on Monday that its subsidiary Vinci Construction Grands Projets was summoned on November 9 by the Nanterre investigating judge with a view to a possible indictment in in connection with a 2015 complaint related to working conditions at its construction sites in Qatar.

In a press release, Vinci underlined that, since 2015, it had vigorously refuted the allegations brought against it concerning construction sites in Qatar carried out by the company QDVC in which Vinci Construction Grands Projets holds a 49% stake. The balance, or 51%, is held by Qatari Investment Authority (QIA), Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund.

Vinci recalled that a first complaint filed in 2015 had been dismissed in January 2018. “Contrary to the said allegations, none of the projects attributed to QDVC are linked to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar”, specified Vinci .

The group assured that it would continue to collaborate with justice, “with the objective of making known that the allegations about it are not justified”. “Vinci recalls its long-standing commitment not only to respect human rights but to seek to improve the living and working conditions of all workers working on its sites around the world,” the group said in its press release.

After these announcements, Vinci shares lost 2.2% to 93.9 euros to show the sharpest decline in the CAC 40.
