VF 5, VF 6, VF 7, VF 8 and VF 9. No, it is not a squadron of fighter planes but model cars. In this case, those of the Vietnamese manufacturer Vinfast which, in September 2021, unveiled two electric SUVs, the VF e35 and e36, designed by the famous Italian design studio Pininfarina.

While Vinfast took advantage of the Los Angeles auto show, Auto Show, last November to officially launch its brand, it turned on the watts at CES 2022 (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas. The high mass of electronics and high-tech has become a popular meeting place for car manufacturers.

Thus Vinfast unveiled five 100% electric models: VF 5, VF 6, VF 7, VF 8 and VF 9. In reality, only the first three are real novelties. Indeed, the VF 8 and VF 9 correspond respectively to the “old” VF e35 and e36.

This new name follows Vinfast’s decision to stop production – at the end of 2022 – of thermal combustion vehicles.
If the VF 8 and VF 9 models correspond to segments D and E, the largest, the VF 5 will be classified in segment A, the smallest, the VF 6 in segment B, and so on.

The VF e35 SUV was renamed VF 8.

First models to be marketed, the VF 8 and VF 9 of which we had already spoken. They carry two electric motors delivering a total power of 300 kW. The VF 8 will offer autonomy
504 km, against 550 km for the VF 9 whose battery capacity should be 100 kWh.

Battery Rental Return

Vinfast has also lifted the veil on the French prices of its VF 8 and VF 9 SUVs. They will be marketed respectively from 43,350 and 59,150 €. These prices include battery rental, as Renault offered at the start of the Zoé. Two formulas will be available: the Flexible subscription will include 500 km per month with additional costs beyond the 501st km. The second, Fixed, will be more expensive but unlimited in terms of mileage.

Vinfast ensures that the monthly cost of its electric models “will be close to that of a thermal model”. All of the brand’s vehicles will be guaranteed for ten years or 200,000 km, and the batteries will be changed free of charge when their charge and discharge capacity is below 70%.

Pre-orders in Europe are open from January 6, until April 6, 2022. Customers who have booked – with a deposit of €150 – will automatically be part of an exclusive membership program: VinFirst – Pioneer’s Gratitude to Pioneers . They will benefit from a purchase voucher of €2,500 for a VF 8 or €4,200 for a VF 9, a portable charger and a stay (excluding airfare) in Vietnam. The icing on the cake, members of this program will have a tree planted in their name. “under the Phu Quoc National Forest Protection Project”.

If the first Vinfast electric vehicles have already been delivered to Vietnam, Europeans will have to wait until the last quarter of 2022 to take advantage of theirs. But this period should subsequently be shortened. Indeed, for Madame Le Thi Thu Thuy, Vice-President of Vingroup and CEO of Vinfast Global, “shipping cars around the world is a thing of the past, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic. To attract customers, nothing beats a production site close to the market (…). Vinfast is therefore looking for a site in Germany, ‘economic flagship of Europe’, in order to set up a production plant for electric cars and buses.”
