Vintage moment: when Agnès Jaoui won the César for best film in 2001 with The Taste of Others

The 49th Caesar ceremony the cinema, organized by the Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques, took place at the Palais de l’Olympia on Friday February 23, 2024 in Paris. The actress began her career towards the end of the 80s. She will thus play in several films at the cinema, but also in theater plays at the same time. Agnès Jaoui will notably share the stage with the man who will become her husband, the late Jean-Pierre Bacri. Together, they will write the play called Kitchen and outbuildings, which was later made into a film adaptation in 1992, in which they both star. The couple will be rewarded with a Molière for this work. Subsequently, the two screenwriters will continue their fruitful collaboration. They will notably adapt for the cinema the series of eight plays by Alan Ayckbourn, Intimate Exchangeswhich will be concentrated in two films under the title Smoking / No Smoking. Agnès Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri won the César for best screenplay in 1994.

But the real consecration will occur in 2001 for Agnès Jaoui, given that that year she won the César for best film for The taste of Others. A reward that she once again shared with her former companion Jean-Pierre Bacri. For the record, The taste of Others will also be nominated for the Oscar for best foreign film in 2001.
