Warning and acquittal after riding drama

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo, modern pentathlete Annika Schleu tried desperately to drive a shy horse with a whip. National coach Kim Raisner encourages them to do so. The excitement is great. The case is being investigated by the world association. He is now issuing a warning.

After the riding drama about Annika Schleu at the Olympic Games, the World Association of Modern Pentathletes (UIPM) issued an official warning against national coach Kim Raisner. As the UIPM announced after the disciplinary committee’s investigation was concluded, Raisner broke competition rules in Tokyo “by hitting a horse and encouraging her athlete to do the same”. Schleu, on the other hand, was not found guilty of excessive use of the whip and spurs.

The world association had excluded Raisner from the Tokyo games after the incident, and the disciplinary committee confirmed this decision. If such behavior is repeated, the 48-year-old threatens to be excluded from UIPM competitions. In addition, before her next competition, Raisner has to attend a trainer seminar that includes a module on how to deal with animals correctly.

The Schleu, who was on the gold course, had tearfully tried during the riding discipline at the Olympic Games to bring the completely unsettled horse “Saint Boy”, which had been drawn to her, back into the course with a whip and spurs. Raisner had encouraged her to do so with a heavily controversial shout (“Hit it, hit it right!”). A UIPM working group is currently working on a catalog of measures to avoid such incidents in the future.

The disciplinary committee of the world association recognized in its decision Raisner’s “personal contribution that she has made for the modern pentathlon over many years” and that her career as a top athlete and national coach had been characterized by “exemplary behavior” up to Tokyo. However, their “outrageous behavior” in Japan “cannot go unpunished”.
