Violence against women: Emmanuel Macron in Dijon to defend his policy

This Friday is the international day against violence against women. While 121 women have already been killed by their spouse or ex-spouse this year, Emmanuel Macron, who had made this subject the great cause of his first term, is going to Dijon this Friday to defend his policy and perhaps make new announcements.

An indicator that does not fall, worse, it progresses. There are 121 women killed by their spouse or ex-spouse since January according to the collective “We all”, already more than last year on the same date. Chilling figures despite the arsenal of measures put in place by the government and a billion euros of investment. It is even the great cause of Emmanuel Macron since his first term. On this international day against violence against women, the president is this Friday morning in Dijon, to meet victims, gendarmes and magistrates. The objective: to defend the policy of the government.

“We have an obligation to do better, but there is a committed dynamic”

The Élysée highlights its results: the possibility of collecting complaints at the hospital, the financing of new reception structures, the multiplication of prevention devices such as “serious danger” telephones and anti-reconciliation bracelets or even reporting platform running at full speed.

Almost all of the measures decided at the end of the Grenelle against domestic violence at the end of 2019 have been fully implemented, welcomes the president’s entourage. “We have an obligation to do better, but there is a committed dynamic”, underlines an adviser. New announcements could be made this Friday in Dijon, in particular to improve the support for complainants by a lawyer as soon as a complaint is filed at the police station. An interministerial committee on violence against women will also meet next January, because much remains to be done. According to the Ministry of the Interior, 122 feminicides were recorded last year, and over the same period, 186,800 victims of domestic violence were recorded.
