The situation in Haiti is not stabilizing even after Prime Minister Henry resigns. Criminal gangs continue to wreak havoc. Several members are now killed in a confrontation with the police. Their bodies are desecrated.

Gang crime is escalating in Haiti. In the Petion-Ville district in the south of the capital Port-au-Prince, suspected gang members were killed in clashes with police. Two of them, including a leader known as Makandal, were killed and set on fire.

Footage also shows how the bodies were dragged onto the street and lay there. One man’s hands were severed. Makandal’s family’s house was also set on fire. After months of escalating gang violence and the collapse of state institutions, Prime Minister Ariel Henry announced his resignation last week.

Through a presidential council, the Caribbean state, which is suffering from political instability and great poverty, should find its way back to normality. However, so far this has not helped to calm the situation. There are repeated clashes with numerous deaths.

The composition of the council is also causing controversy and is still unclear. Gangs have threatened politicians involved. Those left out criticized the council for empowering members of groups they consider corrupt.
