Violent thunderstorms: six departments placed on orange vigilance

Make way for thunderstorms. Météo France has placed this Sunday, May 15, six departments in the north-west of France on orange vigilance for a risk of thunderstorms.

These are Seine-Maritime, Eure, Calvados, Manche, Orne and Sarthe.

Disturbances are expected in the afternoon this Sunday, until the evening.

Accompanied by heavy rain, hail and gusts of wind

This stormy episode “requires special monitoring due to a significant risk of violent phenomena”, warns Météo France. The agency predicts that these storms, sometimes “virulent”, which will be accompanied by “heavy rainfall, hail and gusts of wind” that can reach “100 km / h”.

The rest of France, apart from a few departments in the south-east and Corsica, remains on yellow alert for thunderstorms, because “the risk exists, but seems more punctual”.

During the night from Sunday to Monday, “thunderstorms will persist from the southwest to the northeast”, announces Météo France “but they will be less intense than the previous ones”.
