For the record, the author of this book has established himself in the space of a few years as an essential figure in the literary industry in France. Within her various publications, Virginie Grimaldi always explores people’s feelings, anxieties and hopes with sincerity and benevolence. This was particularly the case in the book called And only the sweet moments lastreleased in 2020, in which she seized on a subject that was dear to her: maternity. As a reminder, Viriginie Grimaldi wrote this book shortly after the birth of her second child, which did not go in the best of ways.
“I was expecting a child and I had decided to take a break to take the time to enjoy this happiness. It was my priority. But my son’s arrival was a bit chaotic since he was born premature. We were extremely scared, we were told about vital prognosis, we thought we were losing him… It was when he was in the resuscitation room that this book came to me. We have a painful past, we lost our first child at birth and there, all the scars reopened… It remains a traumatic experience, even if today my child is doing very well“, had explained the novelist, during an interview granted to the Parisian in 2020, while specifying that this new book “was absolutely not planned” initially. Eventually, the complications related to the birth of her second child greatly inspired Virginie Grimaldi.

During this same interview, the writer was asked about the therapeutic aspect that this novel could have had for her after having almost lost her child at birth. “I have often been asked the question and I have always answered no. But there I think it was really necessary. I had very little time for this novel because I have two children, one of whom had just been born. But every time I had a little moment just for me, it would come out on its own and I would start writing. Me who is rather slow in writing, there, it was easy, it came almost by itself. This novel came to me without asking“, said Virginie Grimaldi. “This is my most personal novel. I didn’t feel the need like for the previous ones to add touches of humor. Of course there is because it is my nature. I always write with my guts and instinctively but here, it’s true, the subject was deeper, more serious. And now that this novel is finished and that I entrust it to the readers, it is true that I feel lighter“, had also added the novelist. Virginie Grimaldi had also taken advantage of this book to deliver a beautiful tribute to caregivers through her words.
