- A white rhinoceros bull injured a zebra’s stomach so badly on Friday at Zurich Zoo that the Grevy’s zebra stallion died on site.
- The incident took place on a place visible to zoo guests in the Lewa savannah. Several animal species live together here.
“This is a very unfortunate and unpleasant incident,” said zoo director Severin Dressen in one Message quoted. With all precautions there is always a residual risk when different animal species live together. Such an unfortunate collision is the exception. In addition to rhinos and zebras, giraffes, antelopes, ostriches and chickens live in the complex.
No consequences for rhino
The incident has no consequences for the rhinoceros bull. According to the announcement, he acted according to his natural instincts and had no intentions to kill. Presumably he just wanted to push the zebra to one side and caught it unlucky.
