The British government said Thursday “not to be aware of any change of plan” concerning the visit of Charles III to France, agitated by an important social movement against a controversial pension reform.

King Charles III is expected in France as part of his first state visit since his accession to the throne in September. Accompanied by his wife Queen Camilla, he will stay there until March 29 before going to Germany until the 31st. The monarch is due to arrive on Sunday on a state visit, which risks being disrupted by protests. “I am not aware of any plans to change the plan,” a Downing Street spokesman said Thursday.

The program could be disrupted

Charles III must in particular attend with President Emmanuel Macron a ceremony under the Arc de Triomphe and participate in a banquet at the Palace of Versailles, near Paris, before going to Bordeaux (south-west).

The program could however be disrupted, the unions mobilized against the pension reform in France having already announced that the royal visit was “in their sights”. Buckingham Palace ensures to follow the situation closely.
