VIVEPORT by HTC: an INCREDIBLE proposition for developers!

VIVEPORT by HTC VIVE is a game and application distribution platform for extended reality (XR). Developed by HTC Corporation, it offers a wide range of games and applications, for virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) users. It is possible to buy your games there, like on other platforms of the genre (Meta, SteamVR…) but also, and this is unique in the field of XR, to take out a subscription giving access to hundreds of games freely.

VIVEPORT by HTC VIVE today announced a significant increase in the share of developers’ revenue during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. Starting April 1, 2024 for new content and retroactively from March 1 for existing titles, developers will benefit from a 90% share of revenue from sales of one-time purchases on the platform, for PCVR or VIVE XR Elite. The objective of this approach is to guarantee more advantageous remuneration for XR content creators compared to other platforms, while stimulating the economic growth of virtual and mixed reality at HTC.

“Developers are the heart of the XR ecosystem – when they thrive, the entire industry thrives,” said Joseph Lin, CEO of VIVEPORT. “That’s why we’re introducing a generous 90% revenue share on app and game purchases on the VIVEPORT store for developers to accelerate their growth. By putting more resources directly in the hands of creators, we ensure that VIVEPORT drives the growth of the XR community. »

With this great motivation for developers and the huge discounts offered until April 14, it seems clear that HTC aims to attract a little more people to its ecosystem. Filling the store with applications (fun or not) and lowering the price to attract the general public or even professionals with a limited budget is a good strategy but the fight will be difficult in the face of Meta and its much more affordable Quest 3. We must not forget, either, the future models of Google/Samsung and Meta/LG will come to play on the grounds of the Taiwanese manufacturer and this explains that HTC launches this commercial offensive.
