Vivo’s new X-series smartphones are now official. With the X80 and X80 Pro, the Chinese firm intends to occupy the mid-range and premium terrain.

Vivo X80 and X80 Pro are now official in China. While the X70 range (not marketed in France) consisted of three smartphones, the manufacturer has this time focused on two devices, but a version stamped “+” could be presented soon. They are currently only intended for the Chinese market, but Vivo could make a foray into Europe, as was the case with the X60 Pro last year.
A well-equipped “basic” model
The Vivo X80 presents itself as the most affordable of all. It is equipped with a 6.78-inch Amoled panel displaying in Full HD+ (1080 x 2376 pixels) and offering an image refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The set is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chip coupled at 8/12 GB of RAM and 128/256/512 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. A chip engraved in 4 nanometers which should offer excellent performance in multitasking and video games. It obviously supports 5G, but also wifi 6. We note the presence of an NFC chip and the SoC in question allows compatibility with the Bluetooth 5.3 standard.

On the back, there is a triple photo sensor consisting of a Sony IMX 866 main module of 50 Mpx (f / 1.8), an ultra wide-angle of 12 Mpx (f / 2) and a telephoto lens of 12 Mpx (f/2) with x2 optical zoom (x20 in digital). For selfies, Vivo offers a 32 Mpx sensor (f / 2.5)
The optics are the subject of a partnership with Zeiss and have a coating chosen in collaboration with the German firm. Vivo promises that its V1 Plus chip, dedicated to imaging, will allow you to get the best shots on both smartphones.

Autonomy is ensured by a 4500 mAh battery compatible with wired fast charging at 80 W. The device also supports reverse charging. The smartphones run on Android 12 and Origin OS (Funtouch OS in Europe).
The 8/128 GB version costs 3699 yuan, or around €530 excluding tax. A particularly aggressive price given the technical data sheet, even if it risks being largely overhauled if Vivo decides to market it in Europe.
A Pro version that lacks nothing
The X80 Pro targets a more premium segment and has quite an impressive spec sheet. The brand has chosen a 6.78-inch Amoled LTPO3 panel this time displaying QHD+ (1440 x 3200 pixels) and supporting HDR10+. It will therefore be possible for him to adapt the refresh of the image from 1 to 120 Hz depending on the use in order to save energy. The peak light could reach 1500 nits.

Under the latter, Vivo leaves the choice of weapons. One version is equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 while the other retains the MediaTek Dimensity 9000. We should not lack power in both cases, especially since these SoCs are always coupled with 8/12 GB of RAM and 128/256/512 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. We imagine that the version under Snapdrahon will be chosen in the event of marketing with us. It is compatible with 5G, wifi 6, NFC and Bluetooth 5.2 or 5.3 depending on the choice of SoC. Premium obliges, it has an IP68 sealing certification. Note also the presence of an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which offers a finger recognition space about 40% wider than a conventional reader, as on the X80.
For the photo, this Pro version opts for a configuration quite different from the standard model. There is a main module (Samsung Isocell GNV) of 50 Mpx whose lens opens at f/1.6, which stands out in particular thanks to its stabilization system (gimbal) already seen before on the X range. a 48 Mpx IMX598 sensor (ultra wide-angle f / 2.2), a 12 Mpx telephoto lens (f / 1.9) and an 8 Mpx periscope module (f / 3.4) allowing an x5 optical zoom. At the front, we find the same 32 Mpx sensor of the standard version. It obviously benefited from the same treatment of the optics by Zeiss.

The smartphone has a slightly larger battery, with its capacity of 4700 mAh, and compatible with fast charging at 80 W, as well as with wireless charging at 50 W.
The X80 Pro is available for pre-order from 5499 yuan, or approximately €790 excluding taxes, in its 8/256 GB version (Snapdragon 8 Gen). A price which, we imagine, will be increased to around 1000 € if the smartphone is to be marketed in Europe. Until then, its first deliveries are expected from April 29.
