Launched in Europe through a partnership with Euro de Football 2020, Vivo is a brand that has managed to find a place for itself on the French market. Specializing in mid-range terminals, the manufacturer has decided to adopt a simple guideline by offering smartphones at the best price, without making any concessions on the technical sheet or the design.
Presented at the end of last year, the Y21S is the perfect illustration of this philosophy. Offered at 179 euros on the Orange and Sosh shops, this smartphone with a very fine design (barely 8 mm thick for 182 grams) proves to be convincing in use. We come back to three key points on which Vivo did not make any concessions when designing the Y21S.
A bright and readable screen
First strong point of this Vivo Y21S: its screen. Failing to equip this terminal with an OLED screen, which would have drastically increased the bill, the manufacturer opted for a 6.5-inch LCD panel of excellent quality. The definition of the screen is HD + (1600 by 720 pixels) – more than enough for a smartphone of this type.
This screen also stands out for its excellent calibration, a very good contrast ratio (the traditional weak point of LCD panels), and good brightness whatever the light conditions. In bright light, the screen remains perfectly readable, while in the dark, exposure to its screen does not hurt the eyes. Vivo has also integrated an option into its smartphone to reduce blue light, for increased eye comfort during long sessions.
An effective technical sheet, which goes to the essentials
In order to offer a smartphone under the 200 euro mark, Vivo had to make some sacrifices on the technical sheet of its Y21S. Vivo has integrated here
a Mediatek Helio G80 processor associated with 4 GB of RAM. A chip very comfortable for common tasks and applications of messaging and social networks. Less so when it comes to video games, especially in 3D.
On the other hand, Vivo has not made any concessions on storage space. Despite its low price, the basic version of the Vivo Y21S has 128 GB of internal memory. A memory that can also be extended via an SD card.
With the aim of offering a solid and efficient terminal, Vivo has opted here for a substantial battery (5000 mAh) which gives it good autonomy on a daily basis. An 18W Flashcharge fast charge completes the picture, allowing you to go from 0 to 100% in less than two hours.
A versatile photo pad
If many entry-level terminals neglect their photo part, this is not the case with this smartphone which has a very complete photo block, carried by an excellent main sensor culminating at 50 megapixels, and opening at f /1.8. This also allows you to take advantage of a 50 MP high resolution mode, capturing more precise and detailed shots.
To complement this main sensor, the Vivo Y21S has a Macro sensor, 10x digital zoom and a depth of field sensor. An arsenal that gives it access to many photo and video modes such as timelapse, the now traditional night mode, or even autofocus to keep the focus on the subject photographed.
Usually offered at 199 euros, the Vivo Y21S is currently sold for 179 euros at Orange and at Sosh. This exclusive discount of 20 euros is however only available until March 16 on the operator’s store.
