Vocational high school reform: an establishment blocked in Strasbourg, a burnt car

About fifteen people temporarily blocked access to the Couffignal vocational high school in Strasbourg on Friday, November 18, prompting the intervention of the police and then the firefighters, the day after demonstrations against the project to reform vocational education.

Access to the high school, located in the popular district of Meinau, was blocked from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. by the group who used firecrackers and smoke bombs, two high school students educated in this establishment, which offers vocational, general and technological streams.

Protest against vocational education reform

The national police intervened to restore access, without notable incident, according to the two students. According to the Twitter account “Couffignal high school in struggle», this blocking was aimed at «protest against reform» vocational education.

At midday, a scooter and a car were set on fire, noted an AFP journalist, without it being known whether this event is linked to the early morning blockade. “Following the events at Sophie Germain College (firecracker throwing, editor’s note) and at Couffignal High School, a situation update will be organized today at 3:30 p.m.“, announced the rectorate.

These events occur the day after the second day of strike and mobilization against the vocational education reform project wanted by President Emmanuel Macron. Almost all the organizations of the professional path denounce this reform which provides for an increase of at least 50% in the time of internships for students, which would reduce the hours of general education.
