For the second time in a row, Switzerland loses points in the European Championship qualification because they receive the late equalizer. Murat Yakin is correspondingly dissatisfied after the 2-2 draw in Kosovo.
Above all, the Swiss national coach complained about the lack of cleverness in keeping the lead over time. “Instead of bringing the ball to the corner flag and gaining important seconds there, we lose it in the build-up game and put ourselves in trouble,” said Yakin.
Finally, the necessary clarity was also missing in defense. Nevertheless, Yakin defended his decision not to rely on the duo Manuel Akanji and Nico Elvedi in central defense for the first time, but to replace the latter with Fabian Schär. “These are two players who are playing at the top with their teams in the Premier League. Fabian deserves this chance.”
Space conditions are a sticking point
In the analysis immediately after the game, Yakin also mentioned the poor pitch conditions several times. «We wanted to play the game and create offensive actions. However, that was difficult in this field and ultimately took a lot of effort.”
The opposing coach also admitted that the place was not very advantageous for the Swiss. “It certainly wasn’t easy for the technically skilled players today,” said Primoz Gliha. However, he saw the main reason for his team’s point win in their mentality. “Despite setbacks, my players continued to fight with a lot of heart and were rewarded for it in the end.”
Switzerland, which continues to lead Group I with two points ahead of Romania, continues its home game against Andorra on Tuesday.
