- Criminals want to steal your Volksbank data with a phishing email.
- Activation of the “web security system” serves as a pretext for theft.
- Do not follow the instructions and delete the corresponding mail.
Also in the new year scammers want to elicit sensitive data from you with phishing mails. Volksbank customers are already particularly at risk. A recent message, allegedly from the banking service, states that you need to activate a new web security system. For unspecified reasons, your bank account is not working properly, according to the sender. Normal use will only be possible again once your personal information has been updated.
The scammers behind the email want to put additional pressure on you with a footnote. They claim that without activating the security system, online banking is no longer available to you. You should go through the necessary process via an attached link. Don’t do that!
According to the consumer advice center, if you click on this link, you will be taken to a fake Volksbank page where your account details will be requested. Any information you provide will fall into the hands of scammers. This way they can crack and loot your account.
You can recognize the phishing attempt by the impersonal form of address and structure. A reputable bank will never ask for your personal information by email or phone. If you are unsure, you can contact your bank and check if the message is real.
We advise you to move the e-mail to the spam folder unanswered and to protect yourself against phishing attacks with an antivirus program in the future.
