Volkswagen ID.2: see you on March 15 for the presentation

Volkswagen announces via its social media accounts an event live stream which will take place on March 15, during which the automaker will present a new electric model.

Scheduled for 6:20 p.m., the livestream will be available on LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter. And while Volkswagen is launching the #VWforthepeople hashtag so the public can quickly get updates on the event, it’s also a way for it to teaser its strategy.

A priori, the German manufacturer will unveil an affordable car, probably in a compact size. However, the only vehicles that meet these two characteristics are the future entry-level electric cars confirmed in October 2022 by CEO Thomas Schaefer: a hatchback and a crossover. These models should logically bear the names ID.1 and ID.2.

On LinkedIn, Volkswagen gave more details. Thomas Schaefer, design boss Andreas Mindt and other executives will unveil Volkswagen’s positioning for the next few years, and introduce the new design language of future models.

Scheduled to be marketed from 2025, it is not excluded that the model will take the place of Polo or Golf. Either way, the Volkswagen ID.2 will be the first model to use the MEB+ platform, an updated version of the MEB architecture. MEB+ will bring new prismatic LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) battery cells and charging speeds of up to 200 kW, among other developments.
