Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer: the future electric estate has a name

Volkswagen’s ID family will grow. In 2024, we should discover the ID.7 Tourer.

VW Space Vizzion

Volkswagen is not new to electrics, they recently unveiled the ID.Buzz, we know its prices in France, but there is also the e-UP!, the ID.3, the ID. 4 and ID.5. In 2024, the German manufacturer will launch a purely electric station wagon based on its “ID.Space Vizzion” project. We now know that Volkswagen has protected the name of the model.

The European Patent Office has registered the mark ” ID.7 Tourer under entry number 018703388 dated May 17, 2022. This designation applies, among other things, to Nice Class 12, which is important for vehicles. The entry does not necessarily mean that VW will call the future electric station wagon that way. However, the series designation fits well into the ID model portfolio. Several months ago, Volkswagen had already protected the entire range – from ID.1 to ID.9.

It was initially thought that this model would bear the name ID.6, as VW boss Herbert Diess had already confirmed in July 2021 – even though the model already exists as an SUV on the market in China under this name. There has certainly been a change in strategy, the electric Passat models will in future be known as the ID.7 and ID.7 Tourer. Like ID.3 and the others, these models are also based on the group’s Modular Electric Platform (MEB).

The Space Vizzion project

We can already imagine the VW ID.7 Tourer; a concept was developed in 2019, theID. Space Vizzion. At 4.96 meters long, the LA Auto Show concept car is seven centimeters longer than the VW Passat and five centimeters (1.53 meters) taller. The wheelbase is 16 centimeters longer, an electric motor is installed on the rear axle, with a power of 205 kW. A lithium-ion battery with an energy capacity of 82 kWh was mentioned, which should allow a range of 590 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. An all-wheel drive would also be in the cards.

However, the newest member of the ID family. won’t be available until 2024.
