The ID range. of Volkswagen electric cars on the MEB platform is complete. The brand had already launched the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID. Buzz, and is now launching production of its ID.7 in Emden, Germany. It is a large sedan almost 5 m long, which notably competes with the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Tesla Model S.

If the French market is not very favorable to large sedans, the Volkswagen ID.7 should still appeal to the few drivers refractory to SUVs. Above all, the offer of electric road cars was still quite thin, at least among general manufacturers. “The market launch of the ID.7 is another important step on the road to the electric future of our brand”said Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand.

The assembly of the ID.7 at the Emden plant had been postponed following a decrease in the production of electric cars at the German site, faced with insufficient demand. It will also be produced in China for copies destined for the local market.

Up to 700 km range

The large sedan benefits from a 210 kW (286 hp) electric motor placed on the rear axle. Volkswagen announces up to 615 km of autonomy in the Pro version (useful capacity of 77 kWh) and 700 km of maximum autonomy for the Pro S version (86 useful kWh). The (relatively) fast charging power reaches 200 kW peak, allowing to recharge from 10 to 80% in less than 30 min.

The prices of the ID.7 are not yet known, but could be revealed very soon. Note that a sporty GTX version and a station wagon are also in the pipeline.
