While Volkswagen has just announced the suspension of production of the ID. Buzz on the Hanover site, the German manufacturer is once again occupying the media scene this Tuesday, June 28, 2022. No bad news this time, since the automaker has just unveiled the ID. Aero.

This new concept car represents Volkswagen’s first excursion into the electric sedan marketand foreshadows what could be the ID. 7, the first electric sedan from the manufacturer. After having shone in the compact segment with the ID.3, in the SUV segment with the ID.4 and the ID.5, or even in the van market with the ID. Buzz, Volkswagen is therefore entering this buoyant market dominated by the Tesla Model 3.

According to Volkswagen, the model presented will be exclusive to Chinese territorybut the manufacturer plans to start production of a European series version at Emdem as early as 2023.”With show car ID. Aero, we reveal a preview of the next member of the ID family. A car with an emotional and at the same time extremely aerodynamic design, with a range of more than 600 km, extraordinary space and a top-of-the-range interior”. assures Ralf Brandstätter, Chairman and CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars.

The ID. Aero, this is what Volkswagen’s ID.7 will look like

According to the brand, this concept car is almost five meters long and has been designed to offer rock-solid aerodynamics. Thanks to the particular inclination of the roof, the ID. Aero displays a 0.23 drag coefficientthe same as that of its main competitor, the Tesla Model 3. Under the hood, we obviously find the MEB platform of the VW group, which allows the vehicle to have “short overhangs, a long wheelbase and an exceptionally spacious interior”.

As a battery, we find the 77 kWh pack already used on the brand’s previous electric vehicles. Nevertheless and thanks to the propulsion system and these aerodynamic properties, the ID. Aero has a range of 620 kilometers in the WLTP cycle.

As you can see from the images shared by VW, the design of the ID. Aero takes up the characteristic lines of the ID range, with this LED bar that links the two IQ Light front headlights. 22″ rims reinforce the aggressiveness of the sedan, with this style of turbine. Little madness that proves that it is a concept car, the absence of physical door handles instead of illuminated touch surfacesto further reduce drag”.

As said above, the Chinese version of the ID. Aero will land in the second half of 2023while a model dedicated to the European and American markets (probably renamed ID.7 for the occasion) will be launched later, without further details for the moment.
