Many car manufacturers are seeking to offer accessible electric cars, with prices excluding bonuses starting at €25,000, or even €20,000. Cost reduction requires, for the moment these are small city cars, but the brands have not forgotten that SUVs now represent one in two new car sales in Europe (source: Dataforce via Automotive News Europe).
A future rival for the electric Renault 4?
If the Dacia Spring and Citroën ë-C3 are already inspired by adventurers with their plastic body protections, truly affordable electric SUVs are also on the program. The future electric Renault 4 should therefore feature a raised line, to offer a complementary offer to the R5, while Citroën could launch an ë-C3 Aircross.
It is now Volkswagen’s turn to announce a future affordable electric SUV with a first sketch. It allows us to observe a line a little higher than that of the ID concept. 2all, very marked wheel arches and an inclined rear pillar typical of the brand. The latter is decorated with three horizontal lines.
Volkswagen is not yet giving any details on its future electric city SUV, nicknamed by some ID. 2X. It could take the place of the small thermal SUV T-Cross, with dimensions that we imagine are quite similar, without necessarily inheriting its name.
Logically, it should take over the MEB Entry platform from the production version of the ID concept. 2all, whose final name we also do not know. This architecture is designed for front-wheel drive cars, while two-wheel drive models based on the classic MEB platform are rear-wheel drive. It was developed to lower production costs, and we can therefore hope that Volkswagen’s future electric city SUV will cost less than €30,000 excluding bonuses. However, it should not arrive in dealerships before 2026.
