(AOF) – Voltalia, an international player in renewable energies, has announced the development in Brazil of large-scale renewable projects with wind, solar, hydroelectric and hybrid complexes totaling 821 megawatts in operation and 701.2 megawatts under construction. The company is committed to ensuring that each project contributes to the development of territories through the creation of jobs, sustainable infrastructure and the deployment of social projects for the benefit of local communities.
This commitment is at the heart of Voltalia’s mission and what it has committed to by becoming a “Company with a Mission” through its second mission objective: to contribute with the inhabitants to the sustainable development of the territories.
In Brazil, more than 170 social actions and projects have been carried out since 2014 and more than €2 million in investments have been made. For example, 40% of the workforce recruited during the construction phase are local employees, from the same city or town close to the renewable power plants.
In addition, Voltalia has created two initiatives enabling it to support its ambitious social projects. The first is a unique program in Brazil: “Transformando com Energia” (“Transforming with energy”). It aims to support the development of the skills of the local workforce by financing free training for the inhabitants of the regions where the company operates. This initiative contributes to increasing the long-term employability of local communities. The training offered is certifying and pays particular attention to health and safety at work.
The second is a place dedicated to dialogue with the stakeholders of Serra do Mel: Casa Voltalia. Territorial dialogue officers are present and their mission is to monitor and steer the local consultation process, to work for communication and social action and to anchor Voltalia as a key player in the territory for the development of social projects. . Casa Voltalia has, for example, implemented preventive measures throughout the Covid period. On an ongoing basis, Casa Voltalia works to bring stakeholders together (town hall, association, etc.) and acts as a logistical base for land regularization processes.

Threat to the European energy system
The leading importer of German gas, Uniper posts 54% of the volumes it buys from Russia. Following the war in Ukraine, the group had to acquire the volumes it lacked on the spot market, the prices of which had exploded. In difficulty, he requested aid from the German state, which raises concerns for all European energy companies. Nevertheless the German RWE and the French Engie reacted by arguing that their situation was very different. RWE stressed that it was less dependent on Russian gas. As for Engie, it benefits from the diversification of its sources of supply, with an increase in the volumes of LNG delivered to France and contracts with Norway and Algeria. The group has also adapted its hedging strategy to strengthen its resilience.
