Volvo continues to expand its range of electric vehicles with the formalization of the EM90, succeeding the EX30 and EX90 models. Designed primarily for the Chinese market, the EM90 presents itself as a minivan, or even a minivan.

This new model takes advantage of the synergy between Volvo and Zeekr, a brand also belonging to the Geely group. The EM90 takes inspiration from the Zeekr 009, undergoing significant restyling, particularly at the front and rear sections.

This one still promised to be spacious, it has a length of 5.2 meters for a fairly generous wheelbase of 3.2 meters.

Lots of screens

Inside, the EM90 retains the structure of the Zeekr 009 dashboard, while adding Volvo-specific touches. We find a large 15.4-inch central touchscreencomplemented by modernized cladding.

The interior is inspired by that of the Zeekr with an emphasis on space and comfort. The EM90 offers rear seats similar to those in business class, equipped with armchairs anda 15.6-inch ceiling-mounted screen. The high-end audio system Bowers & Wilkins with 21 speakers completes this luxury experience.

Performance and Autonomy: the EM90 Impresses

On the technical side, the EM90 is equipped witha single 200 kW (approximately 268 horsepower) motor, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. Its 116 kWh battery promises a range of 738 km according to the Chinese CLTC approval cycle, a little more generous than the European WLTP cycle (count approximately 600 km). Fast charging allows you to go from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes, and the vehicle also offers two-way charging.

In total, the Zeekr 009 can accommodate up to six people, in a 2-2-2 configuration. Passengers in the second row can then benefit from a large screen with a diagonal of 15.6 inches, while inductive smartphone charging is available for the driver. The electric van rests on the platform Geely SEA, which notably equips the Smart # 1. The Polestar 3, 4 and 5 will also be based on these, as will the Volvo EX90. This will notably allow the implementation of the Qilin CTP 3.0 battery, developed by the Chinese giant CATL.

Launched first in China, with a starting price of 818,000 yuan (around 105,000 euros), Volvo plans to extend the marketing of the EM90 to other markets, probably in Asia. But, at the moment, we have no information on this subject.
