In Gothenburg, Sweden, Volvo has announced that it is launching a full-scale test of inductive charging
electric vehicles. The test will concern, to begin with, a selection of taxis from the largest operator in Scandinavia, for the city of Gothenburg itself.
The test is part of the “Gothenburg Green City Zone” project, which aims to introduce 100% non-polluting transport on the streets of the city by 2030.
To park is to recharge
In 2017, the Swedish firm Volvo announced that it wanted to switch to the manufacture of exclusively electric and hybrid vehicles by 2030, before reviewing its plans to produce only electric vehicles. The brand released its first such vehicle, the Volvo XC40 Recharge, last year. The brand will deliver XC40s to the Cabonline taxi company to test the charging blocks installed at various locations in the city.
The goal is to test the efficiency and viability of such a means of recharging electric vehicles, and what better than taxis traveling long distances every day and therefore having to be recharged regularly to have detailed results.
Taxis should not waste too much time, the blocks recharging at 40 kW against 50 for wired fast charging terminals. The results are expected within a year.
