In Zurich, all schools are to become day schools. And the people determine the future of a controversial SBB site.
If a school child attends classes in the afternoon, they should stay at school over lunchtime, be able to eat there and be cared for. Zurich’s population is voting on whether all schools in the city area should become day schools from the 2030/31 school year.
There are two variants to choose from: that of the city council with annual costs of 75 million francs and that of parliament with expenditure of 126 million francs.
The critics of the day school point to the high costs, the supporters argue with the benefits for children and families.

The electorate in Zurich will also decide whether to try basic income. A group of 500 Zurich residents are to receive CHF 2,500 to 3,000 a month on a trial basis – without anything in return.
In addition, an initiative wants the city of Zurich to buy an area from the SBB in order to build non-profit apartments on it. The fifth proposal should be undisputed: a new secondary school building is to be built in Unter-Affoltern for CHF 80 million.
