It was a groundbreaking fundamental question: should the future design of the old town of Frauenfeld be car-free? The electorate of the Thurgau capital says no to this and rejects the basic vote with 4574 no to 3003 yes votes. The turnout was over 47 percent.

From now on, planning will be based on the following parameters: meeting zones (20 km/h for cars) and a reduced number of parking spaces. The sections Mittelgasse, Freie-Strasse, Kirchgasse, Bankgasse, Bankplatz and part of Zürcherstrasse are affected.

Line of credit accepted

On the other hand, the framework credit for upgrading the street space in the city center of CHF 11.3 million, which was also up for vote, is accepted. 4252 yes votes versus 3115 no votes. The project includes infrastructure measures on various cantonal and municipal roads.

The yes to upgrading gives the city government planning security, says city councilor Andreas Elliker from the Department of Construction and Transport. “We are also glad that the question of a car-free old town has been resolved. A decision has been made,” Elliker continued.
