If you want to be safe and anonymous online, use a VPN service. They hide your IP address, location and encrypt your internet traffic. However, good VPN clients for Windows, Mac or mobile devices can do even more. Among other things, they also offer the opportunity to access the foreign offerings of Netflix, Disney+ and Co.
Even if there are good reasons for using a VPN, they still sometimes have some disadvantages. By default, users share IP addresses with VPN providers.
This can mean that, for example, certain addresses quickly end up on blacklists if, for example, a large number of accesses to the Netflix offering are registered from the same IP address.
Sometimes there can be difficulties with online banking if you change your IP address too often when accessing it. If you want to access a protected network via a VPN, a shared or changing IP address can also cause you problems.
Surfshark’s dedicated IP address bypasses classic VPN problems
The solution here is a dedicated IP address, i.e. a static address that always remains the same. These are now also available from the VPN provider Surfshark, among others.
The dedicated IP address avoids the above-mentioned disadvantages of regular VPNs by giving you an IP that belongs only to you. Last but not least, there is another advantage: a constant IP address reduces the need for annoying captchas on the internet.
When booking a dedicated IP address, the provider allows you to remove the link between the IP and email address. This means you continue to benefit from the highest possible level of security when surfing and protect your privacy. The following locations are currently available for static IP addresses.
- Netherlands: Amsterdam
- United Kingdom: London
- USA: Los Angeles, New York, San Jose and Dallas

- Germany: Frankfurt
- Japan: Tokyo
- Hong Kong
Surfshark is also planning additional locations in the near future, including in Italy, South Africa, Canada, Australia and France.
Cost of a static IP address with Surfshark
To get a static IP address from Surfshark, you first need an active Surfshark subscription. Since there are often good VPN offers from the provider, you can get them for around 2 euros per month. However, the dedicated IP address is not yet included in the regular subscription; it must be booked separately. For this, 3.75 euros are due per month.
