VR Air Bridge: a new solution for playing wirelessly on Meta Quest?

By dint of digging into the source code of the software Oculusan engineer named ItsKaitlyn03, would have come across something interesting, and not least. The engineer in question would have brought to light the fact that Meta/Oculus would be experimenting with a new way of communicating wirelessly between a PC and a Quest. The source code would describe what would be called the “VR Air Bridge”, a means of wireless communication.

She also specifies that it would bea dongle USB that we could plug into our computers, like a USB Wi-Fi module. The name of this device would be the “D-Link DWA-F18 VR Air Bridge” currently based on theAX1800 USB Wi-Fi adapterwhich offers Wi-Fi 6 up to 1800Mbps (600 Mbps on 2.4 GHz band / 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz band).

The news has something to delight us, because John Carmak himself had announced in 2019 the idea of developing such a solution. Anyway, this toy would not be free in any case, but it could allow us to play wirelessly in better conditions. Indeed, the vast majority of us today use home Wi-Fi by connecting to the box which generally serves all the devices in the house. The latter is not always in the same room as PC, the waves therefore undergo variations passing through walls, and flow rate fluctuates also depending on the number of connected devices and the network demand at a time T.

In order to guarantee optimal performance and thus ensure the stability of your connection in any situation, a dongle Wi-Fi dedicated only to PC streaming VR could be a game changer.

If you haven’t taken the plunge yet, you can treat yourself to a Oculus Quest 2 at the house of Bakerthe Fnac, Darty Where Amazon for €349.99.
