While waiting for Meta Connect, an update for VR headsets Quest, which is particularly interested in game streaming, will arrive soon.
Soberly called “v44”, this update offers more advanced camera settings aimed at sharing sick VR game sequences without actually making viewers sick. The update also plans to improve parental controls.
VR game stream guaranteed without dizziness
Until now, it was difficult to share your game sequences on the Meta Quest 2 in particular without making a large part of your audience sick, at least without the support of third-party software. With the expected v44 update “ in the next weeks “Things should definitely improve.
It will indeed be possible to adjust stabilization on Meta VR headsets and to record or stream sequences in 16:9 or 9:16 for vertical recordings (the perfect format for TikTok and other Shorts). It will also be possible to set the frame rate per second and the compression quality.
These functionalities are already available during a test phase, but Meta specifies however that they are still at an experimental stage. We will therefore have to expect some performance drops depending on the parameters for some time, pending the official deployment of the update and therefore better optimization.
As such, these settings will not be enabled by default. It will be necessary to activate them and adjust them as desired in the Settings menu of the headset, then in the “Experimental” tab.
Better parental controls
In addition to these features aimed at budding streamers, the v44 update also focuses on improving parental controls as well as control over the applications used.
Parents will thus be able to limit children’s access to applications deemed mature by adding a password applied to a manual selection of applications or a filter. It will also be possible to block children’s access to Developer mode, so that they don’t crash the helmet by modifying it excessively.
Expected in the coming weeks, it may well be that this update is concomitant with the Meta Connect conference scheduled for October 11, in which we will be able to discover Meta Quest Pro from every angle. So probably a more visually compelling version of the metaverse Horizon Worlds.
