VR: Mark Zuckerberg lifts the veil on the Meta Quest 3


Meta’s new virtual reality headset is unveiled. Indeed, Mark Zuckerberg delivered on Facebook a first preview of the Meta Quest 3. This new helmet will be launched next fall, three years after the Quest 2. The release date of the device has not yet been specified. . New information is expected to be revealed at the Meta Connect conference on September 27, 2023.

Nevertheless, Meta has unveiled some elements of the technical sheet as well as the design of this mixed reality headset (both virtual and augmented). The latter will thus embark a chipsets Next-generation Snapdragon, developed in collaboration with Qualcomm. With the latter, Meta promises more than twice the graphics performance of the Snapdragon GPU built into the Quest 2. virtual and augmented reality applications.

An introductory price of €569.99

In terms of the look of the new product, the Quest 3 will be 40% thinner than the Quest 2 and equipped with Touch Plus controllers that have been revised to “a more ergonomic, streamlined and comfortable format”, assures Meta. The American company also indicates that it has removed the outer tracking rings “so that the controllers are a natural extension of the hands and take up less space”. Another novelty is the integration of the TruTouch Haptics system, introduced in the Touch Pro, “to let you feel the action like never before”. Note that the Quest 3 will be backward compatible with the Quest 2 catalog, which has more than 500 games and virtual reality applications.

Meta’s new VR bike will be marketed at an introductory price of €569.99 for the 128 GB version. For comparison, the Quest 2 was launched in October 2020 at €349 – €100 less than the Quest 1 — for its version containing 64 GB of storage. Pending the arrival of Quest 3 in the fall, the price of Quest 2 will be lowered. Thus, the VR headset will be available from June 4 at €349.99 for the 128 GB version and €399.99 for the 256 GB version. The Quest 2 will also benefit from a software update to increase performance.
