VW’s electric Bulli is about to start. Fans of the original can look forward to retro charm as well as emission-free mobility and modern comfort. In the meantime, the price is also known, which VW actually wanted to keep to itself.
Update from May 6, 2022: The Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) was probably a bit premature. In the current version of the list of eligible electric vehicles – which determines how much environmental bonus you can get for your electric car – the price of VW’s ID. Buzz popped up. Therefore, buyers must reckon with a proud 65,000 euros for the full equipment, VW didn’t want to reveal the price until later. This means that the higher funding amount cannot be estimated. A slightly cheaper entry-level version is expected, but the price is not known.
VW is likely to prioritize the more expensive version in order to achieve a high margin per sale during tight component availability. Whether the ID. Buzz, however, will reach the first buyers in time for the current environmental bonus is questionable. VW boss Herbert Diess recently announced that VW is completely sold out for 2022 as far as electric cars are concerned.
Update from March 10, 2022: The time has come VW has the ID. Buzz officially presented. Details are now available that could previously only be guessed at. So VW doesn’t donate such a large battery as was sometimes assumed. The same battery is used as in the most powerful versions of ID.4 and ID.5, it has a capacity of 77 kW. The range should therefore be well below the hoped-for 600 km. Because the ID. Buzz is VW’s largest electric car to date, it will also lag behind the ID.4 and ID.5.
On the other hand, charging will be easier, thanks to Plug&Charge, the e-car and the charging station will automatically communicate with each other, just like at Tesla – this saves you the annoying registration at the charging station via app or card. Bidirectional charging will also be possible. The loading speed of the ID. Buzz, at least on paper, convince: With up to 177 kW, the E-Bulli should be charged from 5 to 80 percent in 30 minutes.

Advance sales for the European market are scheduled to begin in May, when deliveries for the ID. Buzz is given fall 2022. VW is still silent on the price.

The electric Bulli was the first thing you heard from the VW Group on the subject of electric cars. In the meantime, three independent electric models from the ID series have already appeared and have given Volkswagen a good start in e-mobility.
