Walker Scobell has landed the role of the demigod in Percy Jackson. The Disney+ series seems to be closer to the original than the films.

Walker Scobell (13) is the new “Percy Jackson”. The young actor will embody the demigod penned by Rick Riordan (57) in the series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” on Disney +. Riordan announced the decision personally on its website.

Scobell recently made his film debut. In “Young Adam” (since March 11, 2022 on Netflix) he plays the younger version of the main character played by Ryan Reynolds (45).

“Incredibly talented young man”

“Walker Scobell is an incredibly talented young man who blew our minds with his screen test for the role of Percy,” writes Rick Riordan. “It was obvious to me and the rest of the team that Walker had the perfect blend of comedic timing, kindness, rebellion, irony and heroism to embody our hero, Percy Jackson.”

The film adaptations failed

As in the five-part book, the series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is about the twelve-year-old student Percy. The New Yorker discovers that his father is Poseidon, making him a demigod. He comes to a camp for other descendants of the gods and has to survive various adventures.

In 2010 and 2013 there were already two film adaptations of the story starring Logan Lerman (30). However, the adaptations did not go down well with either the critics or the fans of the template. The fact that Percy’s age was raised from 12 to 17 caused displeasure.

Unlike the theatrical versions, author Rick Riordan is involved in the series. Filming is scheduled to begin this summer. Disney+ is expected to launch in 2023.
