The New York Stock Exchange opened in disorganized order on Monday, starting a new quarter close to the historic bar of 40,000 points for the Dow Jones, while the European stock exchanges remained closed due to a public holiday.

The Dow Jones index stalled not far from the 40,000 point mark (-0.06%). The technology-dominated Nasdaq rose 0.49%. After 22 records during the first quarter, the broader S&P 500 index advanced 0.11% in early trading.
